This Canteen was started to help feed the repatries at Reims, by the American Red Cross
March 1919.

This section of the devastated district has been opened to sightseeing parties
made up of the members of the A.E.F.
This Canteen is situated in what was a school house.
The windows are all blown out, and paper window panes used instead, but the Red Cross,
with a few materials and much American initiative, managed to make the place fairly comfortable. Capt. R.J. Faure and his assistants, Miss Bennett and Miss Porter are in the background

Interior of the dining hall in the canteen and lodging house equipped by the American Red Cross
for the refugees returned to the ruined city of Rheims.
This room seats 300.
In the background are Captain Faure, Miss Bennet, and Miss Biddle Porter of the American Red Cross and Mlle. Fauriere of the Remoise committee.
They planned and directed the establishment of this canteen

The elderly woman seated between them is Mlle. Fourriaux,
a native of Reims, who never left the city during the four years.
Owing to her heroism the French Government awarded her the Croix de Guerre.
She is now helping the American Red Cross most efficiently.

Mlle. Fouriaux, who is now assisting the American Red Cross in their canteen at Reims.
This woman has won the esteem and gratitude of the French people living in this devastated city.
During the heavy fighting she never left the town, but remained giving aid to the wounded and sick, and is now helping the repatries.
As an acknowledgement for her valiant services the French government awarded her
the Cross of the Legion of Honor
