Saint Julien - Béchevelle
An ideal place to get well is the Chateau Beycheville, (Saint Julien Beychevelle ) near Bordeaux.
The house is surrounded by a large park with magnificent trees.
It was loaned to the American Red Cross which has equipped it as a hospital
for convalescent officers.

The picture shows two methods of work. Mrs. Hurd, (in the foreground) is having a confidential conversation with an individual soldier about something he wants straightened out at home,
and Mrs. Van Kuren (in the background) is interviewing a group, getting information
and distributing comforts

Mrs. Van Kuren, American Red Cross Representative
in the recreation hut at Base Hospital No. 6, near Bordeaux is showing
a wounded American soldier a telegram just received telling him that all is right at home.
One of his friends here, in bed for several months had no news from home for months.
Mrs. Van Kuren cabled home for him, and telegraphed to Tours,
secured his mail and cheered him up with a batch of 19 letters.
It will help his recovery materially
