CROATIA
Croatia
This town wants to be the Capital of the New Yugoslavia Empire.
A typical street scene in Agram, which has aspirations toward becoming
the center of the new union of Serbs, Croats, and Slavs.
It is in Croatia formerly a part of the old Austrian Empire.
Its architecture is more modern than most of the cities to the south
and its streets are wide but not particularly cleanly.
The picture shows farmers driving their turkeys into market.
The American Red Cross has a hospital
and relief station here to supply the needy of the surrounding district

Threshing wheat in Croatia.
The sheaves are laid on the ground
and five horses are driven round and round trampling the grain with their hoofs.
Then the straw is thrown into the Air, the chaff blown away by the wind
and the wheat grains falling to the ground.
American Red Cross workers in Southeastern Europe found these people fairly well off for food,
but badly in need of medical attention

Begging for bread.
The War has greatly increased the numbers of beggars and mendicants in many European countries.
This is the type to be found in Croatia, formerly a part of the old Austrian empire.
He is one of the many that the American Red Cross aided with their feeding and medical stations
for old men and women and children in the new Yugo-Slav nation
