This ship is the only surviving NC model aircraft
of the four built for the Navy.
It is on display at
the Smithsonian Museum.

Of the three aircraft,
the US Navy employed
in making the first ever trans-Atlantic crossing,
only Nancy Boat 4 made it from Rockaway NAS
to Plymouth, England
in 1919,

Great picture it shows
the original three engine configuration of
the Curtiss NC-1.
As the power was too low
for such a large flying boat
it was after much experiments modified to
a four-engined configuration where the central nacelle held two engines,
one driving
a tractor propeller and
the other a pusher propeller.
Mechanics starting the engines, pilot and co-pilot are in the center pod
with gunner in the nest above, NC-1 1918
