Lourdes
School of refugee children which was established by the AMERICAN RED CROSS at Lourdes.
This school is taught by the Sister shown in the picture.
These little children are unlike most children is school.
When they were told that the Fourth of July was to be a holiday and that the school would be closed they all wept so bitterly that it was decided that the school would be kept open on holidays

The picture shows an AMERICAN RED CROSS nurse, a French Red Cross nurse
and a Catholic Sister working together in an AMERICAN RED CROSS hospital

The little boy shown in the first bed on the left became separated from his father and mother
when leaving invaded territory and up to the present time
the American Red Cross has been unable to locate them

The old Sister shown in this picture is over 85 years of age and is a refugee from the invaded region.
In escaping she went on foot for three days before she was found by an American Red Cross worker who placed her in a refugee train.
She finally arriving at Lourdes, where she is cared for in the Convent in the court of which
she is shown in the picture.
This Convent is assisted by the American Red Cross in the care of refugees

A group of refugees near a hotel at Lourdes which has been turned over to the Government
for the care of refugees from the devastated regions.
Most of the refugees cared for in this hotel are unable to support themselves
and having been separated from their families have to be taken care of by the Government
and the American Red Cross.
It will be noted that all the people shown in the picture are defectives,
those seated being old people with two dwarfs standing to the left

She is now being cared for in the convent at Lourdes
which has been turned over for a home for old refugees.
