Comment of Kees Kort
S.I.A.
[Società Italiana Aviazione] was a subsidiary of FIAT starting on 1 June 1916.
Their first design was
the S.I.A. 7B trainer which was used in great numbers by the Italians forces.
The design had a bad reputation for being structurally not sound.
Comment of Kees Kort
The US forces in Italy used a great number of these S.I.A. 7B trainers for training pilots in Italy.
The S.I.A. 9B was a bigger version of the S.I.A. 7B fitted with a more powerful engine.

Comment of Kees Kort
The picture shows
the SIA-7B prototype without almost any markings and no serial.
Under the lower wing
are the Italian colours.
Mark the complete flat top of the fuselage.
A factory picture of great quality.
Date Spring 1917.

Kees Kort comments
The rudder gives Army Air Service serial 30277, which places this machine in a large order for D.H.4 planes built by different contractors like Boeing, Atlantic and Dayton-Wright. This was a batch of 300 machines with the serials 30059/33058.
Given the serial 30277 this is most likely
a Boeing DH-4M-1

Kees Kort Comments
The serial of this airframe can be seen at the tail section '32114', making it one of series of 3000 (!) DH-4 ordered with serials 30059 - 33058.
Various US manufacturers made DH-4 machines for this order, but given the sequence this is a Boeing built sample (DH-4-M).
These were crated and transported to France where they were assembled as
seen here for instance.
Great picture, which by the way shows the big way women added to the war effort during WW1.
