Cassel
"It's a Gift," says the smiling yank.
Doughboys detached for service with the American Red Cross helped distribute shoes
to the half million Russian prisoners unable to leave German internment camps.
This picture was taken at the Cassel camp as a doughboy was handing
a pair of real leather boots to an old Cossack veteran.
Note the American smile and the Russian expression of seriousness

American shoes for Russians.
At the Cassel camp for Russian prisoners of war the American Red Cross
recently distributed 2200 pairs of shoes to the interned soldiers about to return to their homeland.
This shown American doughboys detached for service with the Red Cross handing out shoes
to the prisoners as they march past with a certified slip giving the number of their footwear.
Note the German guard with the dress helmet in the background
