the demand for coffee and doughnuts seems inexhaustible,
but so is the supply, and the workers are always ready to serve a few more.

Separate groups of buildings are maintained for the men of the different armies,
one on the right, the other on the left, half hidden in the groves of great trees
between 1918 and 1920

In the park of the old palace of the Prefecture, across the street from the station,
the American Red Cross has built huts for cantine and rest house for American soldiers.
The town is always crowded and formerly it was exceedingly difficult
for men arriving at night to find lodgings,
but now there is room for all, and good hot food night and day
between 1918 and 1920

so that their families may be notified that they are well.
They showed much appreciation of favors.
